Hurricane Season 2024: Is Your Business Prepared?

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is predicted to be above-normal, according to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)]. This means an increased chance of storms impacting Aruba during the season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.

Here's a breakdown of NOAA's forecast:

  • 85% chance of an above-normal season

  • 10% chance of a near-normal season

  • 5% chance of a below-normal season

The predicted range includes:

  • 17 to 25 total named storms (winds exceeding 39 mph)

  • 8 to 13 hurricanes (winds exceeding 74 mph)

  • 4 to 7 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4, or 5; winds exceeding 111 mph)

Don't wait until a storm hits! Now is the time to ensure your business is prepared for the upcoming season.

Here's what you can do:

  • Review AHATA's Hurricane Preparedness Kit 2024: This kit, approved by Aruba's Crisis Management Office, provides valuable resources and guidance for businesses to develop a comprehensive emergency plan. Share this document with the appropriate departments within your organization.

  • Develop a comprehensive emergency plan:  This plan should outline procedures for securing your facilities, protecting your employees, and ensuring business continuity during and after a storm.

  • Assemble an emergency preparedness kit: Stock essential supplies like non-perishable food, water, first-aid kits, flashlights, and a battery-powered radio.

  • Stay informed: Monitor weather forecasts closely and follow instructions from local authorities.

By taking proactive measures now, you can minimize disruption and ensure the safety of your employees and business during the 2024 hurricane season.
